Yamas and Niyamas, Ahimsa in Yoga Practice, Self-Love, Self-Acceptance and Self-Study

In this episode, Erin and Casey start their discussion about the Yamas and Niyamas by Deborah Adele. Our first Yama is Ahimsa (non-violence) and how that process starts with us. We are the change we wish to see in the world. Erin discusses how if we choose to hang on to anger and withhold love, we harm ourselves the most. This Yama sets up the foundation for us to serve the world in the highest way. This also starts the process of self acceptance and unconditional self love.

We also explore how we feel on the inside will be reflected in our actions on the outside. So when we choose to allow love to flow and work on ourselves, that vibration ripples out. When we learn to take care of ourselves, we can fully express ourselves and our passions.

Erin says, if you’re seeking a Guru, “If you resonate with a redhead, that’s a little disgruntled that practices yoga and curses sometimes, hey maybe I’m here for you.”

Casey discusses self-love and full acceptance more in depth.

“When was the last time you stood in front of a mirror and you looked at yourself and you loved everything you saw.” Casey goes on to elaborate that it’s not about us, it’s for the greater good, but we get to benefit.

Both hosts go on to explore the value of self-study and questions we ask ourselves. Sometimes questions like, “What’s wrong with you?” can exist under the radar. When we draw awareness to questions like this we can change the question to something more like, “What’s amazing about me?” The brain is always capable of change, and Erin discusses how the patterns we develop take some effort to change, but hey, we are here anyways and most of us are not short of hard work.
